The two have met in exactly one controlled setting, and it was not a stack. A 2017 randomized trial in 48 healthy men (human RCT) assigned four separate arms for seven days: alpha-GPC 500 mg, alpha-GPC 250 mg, caffeine 200 mg, or placebo. Nobody combined anything; each man took one thing.

What it found, precisely: no arm outperformed any other on isometric strength or on psychomotor vigilance, the reaction-time testing closest to what "focus" means in practice. The 250 mg alpha-GPC group improved countermovement-jump velocity and power. And the 500 mg alpha-GPC arm showed significantly depressed serum thyroid-stimulating hormone, a hormone signal we report straight because a stacking article that skips it is not being honest with you.

So the head-to-head record reads: on vigilance, neither beat placebo in that one-week design; on jump power, the smaller alpha-GPC dose moved; caffeine 200 mg moved nothing that was measured. One small trial, one week, healthy men. That is the entire direct comparison literature.

Can you take alpha-GPC with caffeine?

Here is the sentence every stack guide skips: no controlled trial has ever tested alpha-GPC plus caffeine as a pair. Not one. The pairing half the nootropics scene runs by default has zero dedicated evidence behind it, for or against.

The closest thing on record is a 2010 randomized trial in 19 healthy college students (human RCT) of a blend called CRAM: alpha-GPC plus choline bitartrate, phosphatidylserine, caffeine, tyrosine, acetyl-L-carnitine and B vitamins. Acutely, the blend maintained reaction time and focus after exhaustive exercise while the placebo group declined; after four weeks of use, the effect was gone. Seven ingredients, one result, zero attribution: nobody can say which component did the acute work, and the study design means nobody ever will.

The same attribution problem runs through the sports blends in our library. A 2018 randomized crossover in 20 trained men (alpha-GPC 500 mg with uridine monophosphate and DHA, single dose) found no improvement in vertical jump, bench-press repetitions or cognition versus placebo. A 2023 randomized crossover in 30 trained cyclists (BCAAs 8 g, L-citrulline 6 g and alpha-GPC 300 mg for seven days) found higher 20-km time-trial peak power and longer time to fatigue, but unchanged completion time, and the authors noted the blend design means nothing is attributable to alpha-GPC alone.

That is research history from clinical populations on prescription drugs: mixed results, and none of it involved huperzine A, healthy adults, or supplement-aisle stacks.
